Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a proven technique originally developed to treat clients with borderline personality disorder, and it is now widely recognized to successfully treat many other disorders, including:

  • Addiction
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Tatiana Matthews, LPC, is trained and experienced in dialectical behavioral therapy. She emphasizes practical, research-based therapies like DBT to help her clients who suffer from these disorders and other issues.

With its roots in cognitive-behavioral therapy, DBT helps clients regulate their emotions without losing control or engaging in destructive behavior. During DBT, the client learns behavioral skills to be applied in real-life situations and when to use them. The four sets of skills that are taught include:

  • Mindfulness
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Emotion Regulation
